Children's Grief Awareness Week

17 November 2025

Children’s Grief Awareness Week UK (CGAW) was founded in 2014 by leading childhood bereavement charity Grief Encounter and falls in mid November each year.

This Children’s Grief Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on children telling their story of who they are.

Our theme — ‘Sharing Stories, Strengthening Hope’ — celebrates how stories can bring comfort, connection, and healing. When bereaved children and young people share their experiences, they’re reminded that they’re not alone — that others understand, and that hope can grow through connection and understanding.

At Grief Encounter, we know that grief doesn’t take a break. Every day, we support children and young people to express their feelings, find hope, and begin to heal.

How to get involved:

There are lots of creative ways to take part this Children’s Grief Awareness Week:

  • Create a bookmark and decorate it with your story.
  • Tell your story through a comic strip.
  • Design a book to share your story — or celebrate a favourite story that brings you comfort.
